Editor's note: Rodney Rogers is chairman and CEO of Virtustream. I am a large enterprise. I employ many people, and make a good deal of money. I am a large enterprise. A vast array of technologies – with varying degrees of purpose and tenure – are required to run me. I have a complex, heterogeneous technology landscape.

Today, Nick Bilton of the New York Times
published a pretty extensive piece on Twitter, specifically its CEO, Dick Costolo. As I read it, one paragraph concerning the potential IPO of the company struck me.

When Google started raising money in 1998, Sergey Brin and Larry Page didn't have a revenue model -- or at least that's how the story goes. The company's highly successful text ad program didn't start until 2000, but Brin and Page may have had at least some idea of how to monetize the service by the time Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim gave them their check.

Editor's note: Julie Ruvolo is a freelance writer and digital editor for the New York Museum of Sex. You can follow her on. According to a growing list of religious groups, feminists, celebrities and policy makers, adult classifieds website Backpage.com is profiting from one of the ugliest crimes on the planet: sex trafficking. Backpage's critics say they are facilitating sex slavery and should shut the site down. New York Times writer Nick Kristof pressured Goldman Sachs to unload their shares in Village Voice Media overnight (and at a $30 million loss) in March.

Editor's note: Tadhg Kelly is a game designer with 20 years experience. Zynga's misery continues, yet mobile seems a little rosier. Games using broadly the same game design as many of the successful Facebook types are often at the top of the charts. People ask me whether these new games are examples of generation-two. Are they new, safe, the new frontier? Answer: Nope.

San Francisco-based startup
SuperBetter Labs is shifting the focus of its namesake social game to focus on strengthening mental resiliency, a decision that coincides with the release of its
iPhone app and launch of clinical trials.

The Gillmor Gang — Scoble, Marks, Taschek, Teare, and Gillmor — spend way too much time obsessing over the relative value of photos in the stream and Twitter's comprehensive dismantling of third party apps. It's the workarounds that brought Twitter to life. Are we about to see a Twitter Spring, where @messages and private streams free us from the tyranny of the crowd? Probably not. 400 characters.

Republican Congressman, Dr. Paul Broun, a member of the House of Representatives' Committee on Science, Space and Technology, was caught on video
arguing that evolution and the Big Bang Theory are "lies straight from the pit of Hell."

David Cameron, the British Prime Minister, has sent his first tweet. Despite joining Twitter in January 2010 his verified account had never tweeted anything -- until a few moments ago. Why Cameron feels the need to tweet now can be explained by growing rumblings of discontent in the Conservative party about the direction of his leadership.

It strikes me as wrong that our most powerful and expensive and familiar objects should be the ones we love the least. We hold them and touch them every day, look at them for hours on end, sleep next to them. But how little we care for them! Here is the problem: we cannot love an object which knows nothing, which learns nothing, and which says nothing.

Skype alternative FriendCaller says it has doubled the number of users it has worldwide to 10 million in less than a year. The FriendCaller service, which lets people talk to other FriendCaller members for free but charges for calls to external phones and other services, works across mobile devices including iOS and Android. It also exists in Web Phone form, and supports Facebook logins.

In France, it is the biggest startup funding round ever. Warner Music Group's owner Access Industries and previous investor Idinvest are investing €100 million ($130 Million) into music streaming startup
Deezer. €25 million ($32.6 million) will be used to buy out previous shares. Orange previously had 11 percent of the company and toyed with the idea of an acquisition. As it is not reinvesting, this plan seems to have ended.

Electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn has denied earlier reports that thousands of workers went on strike on Friday at a plant that assembles Apple's latest iPhone -- reportedly causing production of the device to be "paralysed". Today Foxconn said no such strike took place and claimed production of the iPhone 5 is on schedule, Reuters is reporting.

The maker movement is on the cusp of a boom. They're
job-creating world-
changers, on the verge of thoroughly disrupting everything from
crafts to
consumer electronics to, heck, well,
everything, by
democratizing manufacturing. Makerbot has released their
Replicator 2. Form 1 sought to Kickstart $100,000 for their professional 3D printer; they're at
$1.5 million and counting. Panda Robotics just launched a Kickstarter for their
open-source PandaBot printer. The authorities are
cracking down on 3D-printed guns. John Biggs
argues that home 3D printing is killing the manufacturing industry. I
respectfully disagree.

The best line of defense is attack -- and if you can couch your attack in authoritative legal language and attach it to lofty legal principles, so much the better. That's the underlying message behind a Google-commissioned report (released today) which seeks to undermine the legitimacy of ongoing antitrust probes into Mountain View's search dominance and practices.

It's official: the iOS 6 Mapgate saga is not another antennagate. Consumer Reports -- which famously said it could not recommend the iPhone 4 because of reception problems caused by the phone's wrap-around antenna design -- has concluded its assessment of Apple's latest iPhone, naming the iPhone 5 the best iPhone yet, and ranking it "among the best smart phones in our Ratings."

Internet retail giant Amazon is to spend more than $1bn to buy the Seattle corporate HQ it currently leases. Reuters is reporting the $1.16bn transaction is the biggest commercial real estate deal for a single property in the U.S. this year.

Editor's note: Michelle Snyder is executive in residence at InterWest Partners focusing on the transformative role that mobile, social, and data can play in the healthcare industry. You can follow her on Twitter. It's hard not to read an article about the healthcare system these days without some reference to the demise of the patient-physician relationship and the risk this poses to us as individuals and the collective health of our nation. Unfortunately this is old news.

As the amount of digitally collectable data grows, we've entered a period of homebrew health, investor
Esther Dyson said when being interviewed by the New York Times' John Markoff at Stanford School of Medicine's emerging tech conference
Medicine X on Sunday morning. "People are buying FitBits but writing their own software," she said, "and as we can make much better predictions, there's a sea change" in consumer and employer involvement in wellness.
