A court case brought by Apple against Google-owned Motorola Mobility for seeking what Apple argues are excessive royalties for standards-essential patents has been dismissed by the judge in a Wisconsin federal court. It's another small blow for Apple in its legal war against Android. The patents in question are among the 17,000 acquired by Google when it bought Motorola Mobility last year.

KPCB partner Mary Meeker usually publishes her famed Internet Trends report once a year, but gave a small San Francisco crowd a mid-year update tonight. The biggest new facts? Android phone adoption is ramping up six times faster than iPhone, and Android surpassed Windows as the #1 OS for Internet-enabled devices in Q1 2012. Here's the rest of the new stats, and the statement by Mark Zuckerberg that Meeker called arrogant, but probably true.

Don't trust the release notes. Facebook has just added photo filters to its iOS app, though the feature wasn't announced in the version 5.1 "What's New" that highlights multi-photo uploads, slide-out chat buddy list, and Gift giving. Here's a look at the new features in v5.1 and what I think will be added in the next release. There are reports of serious bugs, though, so consider waiting for a patch before installing.

Last month, we told you about a
new service called Circa, which set out to redefine the way that you consume news on your iOS device. The app itself is beautifully designed, and was based off of an idea that Ben Huh had and then shared with Matt Galligan. Galligan took the idea and ran with it.

When Foursquare
introduced the new web version of its "Explore" functionality for those who visit its homepage, we knew that something was up. This was absolutely the "new" Foursquare built on top of all the data that we've provided the service for years and years. You see, check-ins, tips and social connections tell many stories.

What is
OffersBy.me? It's a new website/app offering discounts for goods and services. And although it is currently only serving up offers in the company's hometown of Columbus, OH (expansion is planned) it has some cool features that set it apart from behemoths like Groupon or LivingSocial. OffersBy.me lets customers offer up how much they are willing to spend for a particular good or service and they are then connected with businesses and coupons that match their spending intent. That's a pretty good idea.

Verizon Wireless has been plugging away on its own carefully-controlled mobile app store for years now -- the carrier had planned to beef up the app discovery process
with Chomp before Apple acquired the company, and it implemented new
ESRB app content ratings not long ago -- but now it looks like all that work may have been for naught. According to
a notice spotted by
AllThingsD, Verizon aims to shutter its mobile app store completely within the next few months.

On Election Day, billion-dollar war chests and celebrity endorsements are infinitely less important than getting Americans off the couch and into the polling booths. We've rounded up some cutting-edge, get-out-the-vote technology -- including one minor, but still funny, epic fail from team Obama.

As a
major media figure on the Internet, I often find it difficult to manage all of my content outlets. I have a Twitter feed connected to my Facebook connected to my Tumblr. I also have a personal blog that I ignore and a few other things I shouldn't ignore. The problem, then, is how to curate and post content I'd like to share almost everywhere at once or, barring that, focus in on one content outlet for my eager, content-hungry fan (Hi, Mom!)?

A little over two years after its iOS-only launch, eight months after its acquisition, five months after designer Cole Reinke
