The ZIIRO Celeste Watch Teaches You Color Mixing

Nov 09, 1:52PM

If there's one thing missing from modern watches it's color. The 70s and 80s brought us things like Doxa's orange and Breitling's baby blue but no one, lately, has strayed from the old leathers and grey chromes of modern fashion watcher. Thankfully, the ZIIRO Celeste adds a bit of the old mix-a-lot to some staid steel quartzes.

siriiphone4Recently we've seen reports flying around claiming that Apple has plans to put Siri on older generation devices, and may even be testing out the personal assistant on the iPhone 4. The news seemed more than a bit unexpected, so we decided to wait for Apple's confirmation. Lo and behold, Apple has responded just as we thought they would: Siri is an iPhone 4S exclusive, at least in any official sense.

European Tech Bloggers Are Getting Angry And Why That's Awesome For Startups

Nov 09, 11:37AM

the-hulkBack in 2006 (hell, back in 2002!), it was kinda lonely being a tech blogger in Europe. Not that there weren't plenty of tech sites and nascent blogs opining on 'social media'. Oh no, plenty of those. But not many what I would call hard core sites, setting out to kick down the doors and make trouble. It's taken a long time to get to where we are.

SF's Ed Lee On How He'll Use His (Potential) Mayorship To Help The Tech Industry

Nov 09, 10:32AM

With more than half of San Francisco precincts counted as of late Tuesday night, it seems as if tech-friendly interim Mayor Ed Lee has garnered a 31% percent vote in our fair city's mayoral race. In SF's convoluted as all hell system, if a majority candidate fails to receive 50% of the vote like Lee has, then the election is decided by a count of second and third place votes on the ballots of losing candidates -- which means that an official win will probably be announced by the end of this week, sigh. But even with this loophole, it seems like Lee will be a likely winner ...

Since then, the startup has raised nearly $7 million in funding and added a number of features, like receipt automation, to its platform that allows users to collect and automatically categorize your transaction records. Users register their credit cards with Expensify, and they import eReceipts, tag expenses, and send a copy of your expenses over to your company's bookkeeper. Today, the service made some further announcements about the progress it's made in taking the suck out of your expense reports. For starters, Barrett says that over 90,000 organizations and 650,000 individuals are now using the service. These organizations using Expensify run the gamut, including names like Evernote, Square and Tumblr.

Steve's Last Laugh: Adobe Killing Off Flash For Mobile Devices

Nov 09, 6:59AM

wThe year was 2008. I was at an event focused on mobile, sitting in on a roundtable discussion with several folks from key companies in the industry. One gentleman was from Adobe. The iPhone had launched the previous year, famously without any support for Flash. A lot of folks were up in arms about this — including several at this table. The guy from Adobe assured everyone: mobile Flash would be coming soon. And it was going to be wonderful. The notion that Apple wouldn't include it on the iPhone because of performance issues was pure hogwash. The same thing was said in 2009. The same thing was said in 2010. The same thing was still being said in 2011.

Kickstart The Next Angry Birds: Pota-Toss, With Gorgeous GPS-Based Levels

Nov 09, 4:35AM

Pota-Toss ShotLet me introduce you to Pota-Toss, a gorgeous potato tossing artillery game currently seeking Kickstarter funding for development. It's like Scorched Earth, or Angry Birds but where you aim at the bases of human opponents instead of computer pigs. What makes Pota-Toss special is that the beautifully drawn levels correspond to the GPS-location and local time of the players. If it's 6pm and I'm playing from New York, I'll play in front of the NYC skyline at sunset. Pota-Toss just showed up on Kickstarter on Friday, where the Costa Rican developer Saborstudio is looking for a lean $7,000 to finish production of an iOS version. With gorgeous level art, goofy characters, a proven physics-based game concept, and a sprinkling of innovation, I think Pota-Toss could be a hit.
